Caterpillar, my Deer

It's been a very rainy few days, so the weekend was pretty much a wash as far as getting any actual work down out there. This morning it seems to have let up and I managed to get some photos without becoming too saturated.

The above shot is the forest of dill that we've got going on. It's all dill that grew from the seeds of last years dill plants. The little caterpillar seems to like it.

When we last saw this pepper he was about the size of a thumbnail. Now he's about two inches long and started to actually look like something almost edible.

The lettuce is enormous.

Carrots, while beaten down by all the heavy rain, still look pretty good. They're pushing 6" high. Yes, there are a lot of weeds in the garden right now. Like I said, we couldn't really get out there over the weekend to take care of that.

The squash plants are all about a foot and a half wide now.

The second wave of cucumber plants are growing like mad, stretching out and spreading little tentacles. I had intended to build supports for the cucumbers to climb on, but the rain, again, kept me from that this past weekend.

The cherry tomato plant is showing the rest of the tomatoes how it's done.

Way down deep inside one of the squash plants I spotted this very tiny little guy, which, if all goes well, will grow into a full-fledged squash.

The peas are looking tall and strong. We need to probably tie a few of the larger guys to the supports to be certain they don't fall over, but ...

... they're doing a pretty good job of it themselves, too, as you can see from how they just completely wrap their runners around the twine.

I shot this view from the back of the garden and then, looking down, I spotted ...

... deer tracks! There were about 5 steps all approximately 5 feet apart. I'm not quite sure what deer might eat but nothing looked like it had been chomped on, so chances are he/she was just passing through.

Do deer eat blueberries? There's certainly a ton of them to feast on if they so desired, since we also couldn't put up the netting due to the weather.

Next weekend, though, mark my words: Cucumber support, Blueberry protection, and tons of weeding.
